CHRIST THE KING BAROQUE MUSIC MEETUP GROUP

Johann Sebastian Bach once said,

"The final aim and reason of all music is nothing other than the glorification of God and the refreshment of the spirit."

The purpose of this Meetup Group is to foster appreciation for the music of the Baroque and other great music of the broad "classical" tradition by attending live musical performances in theatres, churches and other halls. We are in the process of making arrangements for a larger group to attend Baroque music events in the North Shore and/or Downtown Chicago areas.

While recordings make it possible for us to enjoy music when we are unable to attend a concert, live music, on the other hand, makes a greater impact upon the listener. Also, people who experience this great music in groups find that their experience of it more enriched than it would be if they went by themselves. Going as a group also has the advantage of obtaining group discounts making concert attendance more attainable on an ongoing basis. We will try to reserve seats for everyone in a group, however, group seating cannot be guaranteed. The exact number of seats in a particular area of the hall may not be available. In such a case, group members would be seated separately at various parts of the concert hall. Also, some of the members of this group are spread apart over long distances in the greater Chicagoland area. For this reason, it may not be feasible for everyone to meet at one central location. Meeting at the concert hall would often best serve the group's need.

The group is organized by the Shrine of Christ the King in Winfield, Illinois. However, members of this Meetup are not required to be members of the Shrine in order to participate in Meetup events. All are welcome to participate! It is our desire to make it easier for people of the Chicago and larger suburban community to experience with us this music which is a product of centuries of Christian civilization. We hope you enjoy your time with us at the musical concerts and we hope to meet as many of you as possible in the coming weeks.

NECROLOGY OF THE SHRINE

Please pray for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed of the Shrine of Christ the King

"It is, therefore, a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins."   (2 Macabees 12:46)

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perptual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen

May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed,
